How I Built an Eco-Empire From My Laundry Room — With Worms, for My Grandkids

Hey y’all, it’s Meme here. 🧤

I want to tell you a little story. It’s not just about worms (though they’re definitely the stars). It’s about how a simple idea—born in my laundry room during a fishing trip with my grandson—turned into a thriving, family-run worm farm with a mission to heal the earth and leave something beautiful behind.

It all started with bait. That’s right. I couldn’t find decent fishing worms, so I figured I’d raise my own. What I didn’t expect was to fall in love with the process.

The Worms Moved In…

One plastic tote of European Nightcrawlers sat next to the washing machine. That was it. But like most good things, it grew. I started reading, testing, and learning everything I could about vermiculture. Pretty soon, I had worms on the back porch, then in hoop houses, and eventually in a full-blown warehouse.

People started asking questions. Then buying worms. Then wanting to learn how to start their own bins.

That’s when I realized: this wasn’t just about bait. This was about waste, soil, food, family, and legacy.

Meme’s Worms Was Born

Today, Meme’s Worms ships composting worms across the country. We offer worm starter kits, bedding blends, and something special I created called Vermifusion—a mix of bedding, minerals, and microbes designed to supercharge worm health and composting.

But more than anything, I teach. I teach families, gardeners, and even farmers how to start with scraps and end up with rich, healthy soil. Worm farming doesn’t need to be complicated—it just needs consistency, care, and the right guidance.

(And I’ve got plenty of that.)

Built for My Family, and Yours

At the heart of this whole journey is my family—especially my grandkids. They’re the reason I started, and the reason I keep going. Every hoop house, every workshop, every worm bin is built on the idea that we can leave the earth better than we found it… and pass that knowledge down the line.

I like to say:

“Worms don’t complain. They just get the job done.”

It’s true. They work quietly, day and night, turning trash into treasure. And if you ask me, that’s a lesson worth sharing.
